Version 1.1³ USMETRIC.EXE DOCUMENTATION ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ -==================================- This program was written by Arild Jensen using Turbo Pascal 7.0 by Borland. The program file 'USMETRIC.EXE' is 86,224 bytes long, and is dated March 13, 1994, 6:38 PM. The following list of files are needed to run USMetric: USMETRIC.EXE (THE MAIN PROGRAM) USMETRIC.PIF (PIF-FILE TO RUN USMETRIC UNDER WINDOWS) USMETRIC.ICO (ICON-FILE TO USE UNDER WINDOWS) USMETRIC.TXT (THIS FILE) INSTALL.BAT (INSTALLS THE PROGRAM) RUNNING THE PROGRAM The main menu consists of five choices. Pressing the ESC-button will end the program. Note that the program alters the ASCII-table, and therefore has to be run in full screen. LENGTH: Here you can do conversions between inches, feet, yards, miles, millimeters (mm), centimeters (cm), meters, and kilometers (km). Note that values expressed in feet is also expressed with the combination of feet, inches, and fractions (down to 1/8) of an inch in parenthesis. Values expressed in inches only are also expressed in fractions of an inch (down to 1/8) in parenthesis. Note that you can enter feet in combination with inches, and fractions of an inch. For instance "4ft 11-3/4in". The program reads this, convert it to feet only, and convert it to the unit of your choice. 1 inch = 25.4 mm 1 foot = 12" 1 yard = 36" or 3' 1 mile = 5,280' or 1,760 yd 1 mm = 1/1,000 m 1 cm = 1/100 m or 10 mm 1 m = 1,000 mm or 100 cm 1 km = 1,000 m AREA: Here you can do conversions between square inches, square feet, square yards, acres, square miles, square centimeters, square meters, hectares, and square kilometers. 1 sq.inch = 6.4515 sq.cm 1 sq.foot = 144 sq.inches 1 sq.yard = 9 sq.feet 1 acre = 43,560 sq.feet or 4,840 sq.yards 1 sq.mile = 640 acres 1 sq.cm = 1/10,000 sq.m 1 sq.m = 10,000 sq.cm 1 hectare = 10,000 sq.m 1 sq.km = 100 hectares VOLUME: Here you can do conversions between cubic inches, cubic feet, cubic yards, fluidounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons, bushels, cubic centimeters, cubic meters, milliliters, centiliters, deciliters, liters, and hectoliters. Note that all US measures are liquid measure, except for bushel, which is dry measure. Also note that one liter is defined as 1,000 cubic centimeters, thereby one milliliter is the same as one cubic centimeter, and one cubic meter is the same as 1,000 liters. As in LENGTH, some units are also displayed in combination with other units, and in fractions. You can also enter pints and quarts in combination with fluid ounces: "2 pt 6 fl.oz" or "1 qt 21 fl.oz". 1 cu.inch = 16.387064 cu.cm 1 cu.foot = 1,728 cu.inches 1 cu.yard = 27 cu.feet 1 fl.oz = 1/128 gallon 1 cup = 8 fl.oz or 1/32 gallon 1 pint = 16 fl.oz or 1/16 gallon 1 quart = 32 fl.oz or 1/4 gallon 1 gallon = 231 cubic inches 1 bushel = 2,150.42 cubic inches 1 cu.cm = 1/1,000,000 cu.m or 1 ml 1 cu.m = 1,000,000 cu.cm or 1,000 liters 1 ml = 1/1,000 liter 1 cl = 10 ml or 1/100 liter 1 dl = 100 ml or 1/10 liter 1 liter = 1,000 cu.cm or 1,000 ml 1 hl = 100 liters WEIGHT: Here you can do conversions between ounces, pounds, short tons, milligrams, grams, kilograms, and metric tons. Note that the US weights are Avoirdupois weights (US standard). Troy weights are used for weighing precious metals, and is not the same as then US standard weights. Pounds is also expressed combined with ounces in parenthesis. You can also enter pounds in combination with ounces. For instance '3 lbs 5.9 oz'. Note that a US 'short' ton is NOT the same as a metric ton. A US ton is approximately 0.91 metric tons. See table below. 1 ounce = 1/16 pound 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg 1 sh ton = 2,000 pounds 1 mg = 1/1,000 g 1 g = 1/1,000 kg or 1,000 mg 1 kg = 1,000 g 1 m ton = 1,000 kg TEMPERATURE: Here you can convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, and vice versa. The accuracy is one-tenth of a degree. Absolute zero = -273.15øC -459.61øF Freezingpoint = 0øC 32øF Body temp. = 37.0øC 98.6øF Boilingpoint = 100øC 212øF I have tried to the best of my knowledge to make this program as accurate as possible, and to my knowledge one inch is defined as exactly 25.4 millimeters, and one pound as exactly 0.45359237 kilograms. Remember that this program is only accurate down to 3 decimals (except for temperature); however you can enter a value with as many decimals as you want. Version 1.0 had a bug in the bushel-conversion. This has now been corrected. If you have any ideas of how to make this program better, let me know. I would greatly appreciate any feed-back from users of my program. Also let me know where you got a hold of this program.
